Second event of the 2012 Taiwan National Surfing Championship Tour completed at Wu Shigang Beach, Ilan.

With an aim to establish a system for competitive surfing in Taiwan and promote the best and upcoming surfers in the country, the second event of the Taiwan National Surfing Championship Tour (TNSC) organized by T.O.R.S.A. (Taiwan Ocean Recreation Sports Association) with sponsorship by Quiksilver, Taiwan, and Banana Tube has been successfully completed.

The second stop of the TNSC tour took place on the 9 th June 2012 at Wu Shigang Beach, Ilan County on the North East Coast of Taiwan. The weather for the contest ranged from glassy seas and sun to variable winds and finally heavy rain and thunder, waves ranged from waist to head high with best conditions in the morning on the high tide. A total of 88 surfers for both short board and long board divisions took part in the one day competition with women again joining the mainly men dominated heats. The competition was judged by Taiwan’s own recently ISA qualified judges, a tough task given the number of heats run on the day.

All competitors received a goody bag on registration, the water proof mobile phone bag came in use later in the day, so a big thanks to Banana Tube for that gift. The top four finishers in each division received a medal and prizes from Quiksilver, presented at the awards presentation after the contest by Ms Chen Hsiu Nuan the Mayor of Toucheng, the district where the event was held.

Being the second event of the TNSC tour all competitors received points which will be carried over event to event to create final rankings for Taiwan’s top surfers. The top twelve surfers in each division will be invited to take part in Professional Cash Challenge division that is part of the 2012 Jialeshuei International Surfing Festival, held from the 5th to 7th of October.

The success of the event was only made possible by the great support by event sponsor Quiksilver, Taiwan and the various branches of the Yilan County Government. Thanks also to Casio for the timing clock and Red Bull power drinks.

T.O.R.S.A would like to specially thank Blue Ocean Surf Club for onsite logistics and Mr. Ma Chun Jung from the Taipei College of Maritime Technology for being on site all day with the rescue jet ski.

Finally, big thanks to all the surfers and friends from North and South of Taiwan who volunteer their time to help make the Tour a success.

Congratulations to all of those who took part and T.O.R.S.A look forward to seeing you all at the third stop on the tour at Dongang on the 1 st September.
